I began my ITEC training in aromatherapy, massage therapy, sports therapy and reflexology in 1997 under the tutorship of Frances Daly, Cathy Hogan, and Olive Gentleman.
With the opening of the Ormonde Hotel, I moved to Kilkenny in 2000. This was a fantastic opportunity to set up my own clinic, and I quickly established a loyal following- my plan was to work with the Kilkenny Hurling Team - which never happened, as fate intervened!
In 2003, a young friend was diagnosed with leukaemia. His oncologist was Malaysian, and encouraged me to work on him to offer comfort and relaxation - remember this was a time that we were still being taught that massage could spread cancer. Sadly, my friend passed away after 13 weeks of treatment. This experience had a profound effect on me, both personally and professionally.
Over the years I took every class to support clients through the medium of comfort orientated touch. In 2007, I became an outreach therapist for The Solas Centre in Waterford, supporting people on all stages of their cancer journeys. This experience led to setting up Cois Nore Cancer Support Centre, Kilkenny, of which I'm a founding member.
In 2013, I began developing a range of natural, aromatherapy based skincare products to help soothe and support clients during cancer treatment. This range has evolved to include hydrosols, cold processed soap, body and facial balms and hand creams.
From my twenty years of clinical experience, I now have a special interest supporting people with pain and mobility problems, issues during pregnancy, and those with special needs. I love to learn, and constantly update my knowledge through CPD (continuous professional development) classes, and reading.
In my "spare time" (whoever invented that phrase?), I sing with The Cairdeas Parkinsons Choir, and volunteer with the local Scout Troop and Dicksboro GAA Club
